Deccan Herald is Bangalore’s truly native daily English newspaper. Many of us when we moved to Bangalore decades back instantly recognized the ONLY newspaper that gives authentic local news is Deccan Herald; that has been THE newspaper for us all through. Thanks to Times of India’s innovation in pricing, Times has become the second daily newspaper for many of us; but Deccan continues its primary position.
When many newspapers starting with Times of India moved to the international standard size of most broadsheets, Deccan Herald was slow to follow. But in the recent past, they have been quick in adapting to changes including an ultra modern Press in Kumbalagod in the outskirts of Bangalore.
On March 5, 2009 all of us – longtime readers – were pleasantly surprised by the “New Look” Deccan Herald. It is definitely far more pleasing on the eyes; the fonts are far easy to read too. Apparently the design is the wok of an internationally renowned design consultant Palmer Watson. The font used is “clan” typeface.
It is nice to see the “traditional” and established print houses adapting to new technology and design innovation without losing their core strengths.
I wish Deccan Herald in its new makeover every success.
